Keith Abbott (USA), teacher at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics (Naropa Institute) in Boulder, Colorado. Author of novels and short story collections, including Boy Scout Cookies. Represented here by his calligraphy and pen & ink drawings.

Humberto Ak'abal (Guatemala), prize-winning poet-performer, specialist in onamatopoetry and nature poems in his native Maya K'iché tongue. Taught at the Schule für Dichtung in Wien, 1996.

Krayem Awad (Austria), Vienna-based painter born in Syria, frequently supplements his artwork with his own poetry. Published works include Krayem, Bewegung und Ursprung and Aquarelle und Aphorismen.

Miguel Barnet (Cuba), literature professor in Havana, taught at the Schule für Dichtung, 1996. Works include: La Vida real, Oficio de àngel, La sagrada familia and Carta de noche.

Daniela Beuren (Austria), Labyrinth member, works with a Viennese team of translators and crossword compilers. Also engages in plurilingual writing.

Walter Benigni (Austria), photographer, whose works have been exhibited in Austria and abroad and published in books and magazines. Hannelore Biricz (Austria), artist and translator specializing in South American poetry, notably Maria Rainer Rodriguez.

Maria Elena Blanco (USA), born in Cuba, lives in Vienna. Writes poetry and literary essays in Spanish and English. Translator. Works include the poetry collection Posesión por pérdida.

Vanessa Boff (USA) is a graduate of the Jack Kerouac School, Boulder, Colorado. Anatol Bourykine (Russia) is a freelance graphic artist currently living and working in Vienna.

Juliana Bowers (UK), resident of Prague, translates from Czech and German. Works as a patchwork artist. György Buda (Austria) translates from Hungarian into German. Translations in-clude Kaddisch für ein nicht geborenes Kind by Imre Kertesz and Hun-garian avant-garde poetry.

Susan Cohen-Unger (Australia), Labyrinth member, lives in Vienna and teaches English.

Richard Dalton (UK) lives and writes in Vienna. Works at Big Ben Bookshop.

Johann de Witt (Netherlands) is an expat Dutchman living in London and writing in English. Ý

Gitta Deutsch (Austria), poet, prose writer and prize-winning literary translator. Author of An einem Tag in Februar (poems) and The Red Thread (reminiscences). Died summer 1998. Matthew Feeback (USA), Labyrinth member, writes poetry and short stories.

Gun Margret Forss (Austria), poet and prize-winning translator from the Swedish and Finnish. Works include the poetry volume Der Morgenröte entgegen. Luisa Futoransky (Argentina) lives in Paris. Recent works include the essay Lunes de miel (1995), the novel Urracas (1992) and the poetry volume La Parca, enfrente (1996).

Christian Ide Hintze (Austria), sound poet, performer, founding director of the Schule für Dichtung in Wien. Publications include die goldene flut (poems), die lyrische guerilla (essays), inpathaaa (LP), 30 rufe (CD), 30 nanzen (video), IPPOI (Internet) and the THO-Tetralogie.

Mario Horvath (Austria), born in Burgenland. Son of a Burgenland Croat and Hungarian Sinto. Settled in Vienna in 1982 after wandering Europe with his family. Biologist. Writes in Romany and German. Published in anthologies and magazines. Playwright and actor with Rotatheater.

Christine Huber (Austria) One of the co-founders of the Schule für Dichtung in Wien. Member of the literary group das fröhliche wohnzimmer. Poetry books include annahmeschluss and du seele, ich geist.

Ilija Jovanovic (Austria), born in Serbia, has lived in Vienna since 1971. Writes in Romany, Serbo-Croat and German. Published in anthologies and magazines.

Tamara Kamenszain (Argentina), lit-erature teacher in Buenos Aires, Guggenheim award winner. Has published several poetry collections, including Los no, La casa grande, and Vida de living. Also two volumes of literary criticism.

Karin Kaminker (USA), co-founder of Labyrinth and subdream. Specialises in performance poetry, with music and dance. Her lyrics for jazz orchestra were recently released on CD (Concertina M). Editor of the children's poetry series Poetry Here and There.

Roger Kaminker (France) is a UN interpreter, working from French and Spanish into English.

Jaqueline Karp-Gendre (UK) is a British poet living in France, with a preference for multi-lingual writing.

Hillary Keel (USA), Labyrinth member, writes poems and short-stories. Works as an English teacher in Vienna.

Jeremy Keighley (UK) is a former member of Labyrinth, now living and writing in Amsterdam. Klara Köttner-Benigni (Austria), writer, radio journalist, translator and editor, has published novels, essays and three books of verse, including Terminal.

Hartmut Kuhnke (Germany), Nuremberg artist, specialising in woodcuts, whose work has been widely exhibited in Germany.

Alexandre Lyssenko (Russia), photographer, member of VOEAV (All-Austria Assoc. of Photographers). On international juries for photo competitions. Numerous prizes for his own photography.

Jackson Mac Low (USA), poet, composer, multi-media performance artist and teacher. Works include Stanzas for Iris Lezak, Representative Works: 1938-1985, Pieces o' Six and The Pronouns ­ A Collection of 40 Dances. Has also performed and taught in Vienna.

Friederike Mayröcker (Austria) is one of the foremost exponents of experimental writing in German-language literature. Author of numerous volumes of poetry, prose and radio plays. Has received many important literary awards, inc. Elke-Lasker-Schüle-Preis 1996. Also well-known for her graphic work. Her latest volume of verse was the selected poems Benachbarte Metale.

Danny McFie (UK), painter, art teacher and former Labyrinth member, lives and works in Berlin. Kevin McLaughlin (Ireland), computer expert living in Vienna, describes himself as a "parking lot poet". Katherine McNamara (USA) edits Archipelago Internet magazine. Her poetry and prose has appeared in various publications.

Michael Michlmayr (Austria) is a freelance art photographer, who has exhibited in Vienna, Paris and London. Paula Ocampo (Argentina) artist/art historian, teacher. Currently lives in NY. Illustrator for magazines and children's books. The drawings in this issue are in mixed media, ink and acrylic.

Hanns Otte (Austria) is an art photographer published in numerous journals and catalogues. Frequent solo and group exhibitions in Austria and abroad.

Heidi Pataki (Austria) has published several collections of poetry, including kurzer pause and guter ruf. Often performs at international poetry festivals.

Julie Patton (USA), poet, performer and visual artist. Teaches at the Jack Kerouac School, Boulder, Colorado and the Schule für Dichtung in Wien. Numerous exhibitions. Published works include Alphabet Soup, Teething on Type I & II and Nyorican Symphony (CD).

Eva Petröczi (Hungary), successor of the late-modern New Moon movement in Hungary. Author of 6 volumes of poetry, including A bokályos házban (1997).

Farrenden Pledge (UK) is a German translator and second-hand bookseller living in Oxford.

John Rety (UK) lives in London and leads the Toriano Poets group. Publications include Song of Anarchy.

Israel Ring (Israel) Born 1922 in Berlin, emigrated to Israel before the Kristallnacht. A teacher and researcher for many years, he has written several books, including studies of the Holocaust and 3 books of poetry in Hebrew.

Lisa Rosenblatt (USA), Labyrinth member whose poetry has been published in various US poetry journals. Performs with rock band Gysm Kitchen.

Ed Sanders (USA), founder in the 60s of The Fugs poetry and rock group and Fuck You: A Magazine of the Arts. His numerous publications include Thirsting for Peace in a Raging Century, Poems from the Rebel Café and 1968: A Biography in Verse.

Eleanore Schönmaier (Canada) is a university teacher in Halifa and has published poetry in US and Canadian magazines and the short story collection Passion Fruit Tree. Raoul Schrott (Austria), Dada specialist, poetry anthologist and author of a.o. Hotels (poetry), Finis terrae (novel) and an anthology of world poetry through history.

Ron Silliman (USA), representative of the Language School of Poetry in the 60s, is now near to completing his giant project The Alphabet, of which Under forms a part. Other works include The New Sentence, a book of theoretical writings.

Victoria Slavuski (Argentina) Labyrinth member. Novelist and translator. Author of the novel Musica para olvidar una isla.

Anna Taylor (UK) is an award-winning poet, essayist, dramatist and translator. Poetry collections include Cut Some Cords and Both And: A Triptych.

Ceija Stojka (Austria) born in Styria, daughter of travelling Romas. Survived Nazi concentration camps. Writes in Romany and German. Author of 2 books. Published in various anthologies.

Andrei Voznesensky (Russia), leading Russian poet. Collections in English include Antiworlds and the Fifth Ace and An Arrow in the Wall.

Peter Waugh (UK), translator, English teacher and publisher. Co-founder of Labyrinth and subdream. His poems and translations have appeared in publications in the UK, US and Austria.

John Wilmot (UK) describes himself as "an itinerant translation conference lecturer whose primary passion is translating Old High German".
